Functional art range of Street furniture by Street & Garden Furniture

A suite began with a brief to create a site specific, functional art range of furniture for Short St, Southport on the Gold Coast. The collection of designs was inspired by the Moreton Bay Fig Tree which was chosen to have a large bench skirting it.

The suite consists of the Radiating Bench, the Small Bench and a Tree Grate and Guard. All the items are organic in form yet are in keeping with the modern architecture along the street. This suite's design and development is by Miranda Lockhart.

The materials involved in the benches are hot dip galvanised mild steel and hardwood kwila slats with stainless steel fixings. The manufacturing processes used were CNC shaped timber, laser cutting, folding and bending steel. Both the Radiating Buttrest Bench and the Small Buttrest Bench (see image) feature a folded buttress inspired substructure.

Street and Garden Furniture utilises quality materials and production methods. Street and Garden Furniture uses CAD technology to streamline design and production. Many of Street and Garden Furniture’s products are sand or die cast, while others are fabricated.

Street and Garden Furniture’s team is able to provide all aspects design, product development, and final production. Through the use of CAD technology Street and Garden Furniture is able to develop rapid prototypes that give the client an indication of the final product outcome before going into production.
